If you drive a diesel vehicle it has a Diesel Particulate Filter which is responsible for preventing harmful pollutants leaking out into the atmosphere. The DPF traps and removes around 85% of the soot found in the exhaust system and then burns off the remaining ash particles when the filter is full by injecting fuel into the exhaust system. This is known as filter regeneration and is managed through engine programming. Cleaning the DPF is required as periodic maintenance and should be carried out by experienced DPF specialists, like Simon’s Garage.
